The Rotary Club of Kanagawa Shonan, the first alumni club in Japan, was chartered on December 15, 2004 to “Celebrate Rotary” on its centennial year with Kazuhiko Ozawa, then a PDG and past RI Director (2007-2009) as its special representative.
Of the 23 charter members, 11 were ambassadorial scholarship alumni, 9 were former GSE team members, and 3 were past Youth
Exchange students.
Our vocational classifications cover opera singer, pianist, composer, medical doctor, city worker, travel agent, university professor, ICT specialist, school counselor and more, and 3 members live overseas (UK, Denmark, US).
Taking full advantage of our members’ international experiences and connections, we have conducted many international service
projects, which include:
- ・Deep well project in the Philippines (2006)
- ・Microcredit program in Myanmar (2010, 2014)
- ・Donation of bikes to health workers in Zambia (2011)
- ・Donation of books to a community library in Indonesia (2011)
- ・Donation of books to 30 tsunami-stricken schools in Fukushima (2011)
- ・Community factory support in Cambodia (2013)
- ・Donation of medical equipment to a hospital in Myanmar (2014)
- ・Donation of zink plates for earthquake victims in Nepal (2015)
- ・Donation of school furniture/supplies to Nepali school. (2018)
- ・Women empowerment project in Nepal (2019)
To make those projects possible, we have:
- • held charity concerts featuring our musician members
- • conducted English seminars for adult learners
- • utilized matching grants/district grants from the Rotary Foundation
and worked with
- • Japanese NGO’s
- • Rotary clubs overseas
- • Alumni Associations in Japan and overseas
We meet in the city of Fujisawa, Kanagawa Japan, near the old capital city of
Kamakura.
To get to Fujisawa Station, it takes about 50 minutes from Tokyo by train.
We conduct our meetings in Japanese, but we can help visitors with English, German, and French.
